Doing What Jesus Does | by Kevin Meyer

Jesus says, "I tell you the truth." Not that Jesus ever lies, but Jesus wants us to know these words are really, really true! I tell you the truth, anyone who puts their faith in me will do the works I have been doing... -John 14:12. For the past few months I have not been able to shake these words from my heart. This is what we have been called to do. We are called to trust Jesus and allow Him to do His works through us.

This is my prayer: as you serve right where you are, you will see the work of God. This is a promise to everyone and anyone who puts their faith in Jesus. As you take the risk of faith and step out of your comfort zone, you place yourself in the hands of Jesus and get to see the Spirit work through your faith.

Step out and offer to pray for someone's health, marriage or work situation. Ask Jesus with confident authority to release His power and presence in the situation you are praying for and watch the work of Jesus.

Step out and apologize to the person you offended that you are sorry. I know you will feel uncomfortable. It's never easy to swallow your pride. But if Jesus has been prodding you to do it, then make the call or set up a time to meet. Anyone who puts their faith in Jesus and does what He says will see the works of God.

Step out and lead a small group. Serve whether you know your gifts or not. Offer that financial gift. Reach out to your neighbor. Invite a friend to study the Bible with you.

In Paul's letter to the Corinthians, he makes this bold statement: The kingdom of God is not a matter of talk but of power - 1 Corinthians 4:20. It is marked by power. Following Jesus is not a life of mere talk. This thought of Paul refers back to his words in 1 Corinthians 4:2. My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit's power, so that your faith might not rest on men's wisdom, but on God's power. The kingdom of God is not a bunch of empty words filling empty lives. Kingdom-living is Spirit-filled living. Spirit-filled living demonstrates the power of God. The power of God is what the world is looking for. The world is not impressed with mere words.

I tell you the truth, anyone who puts their faith in me will do the works I have been doing... It all begins with prayer. Tell Jesus you will put your faith in Him. Now take time to listen to what He wants you to do. How does Jesus want you to put your faith in Him? What does that look like? Who is He calling you to serve? However the Spirit leads, follow. You will see Jesus work. I tell you the truth... says Jesus. It's a promise.
